# How to bulk unmerge incorrectly merged records in HubSpot with Koalify
## Use the Koalify Unmerge workflow action to undo accidental merges in bulk, for example when a workflow or duplicate rule merged the wrong records.
Every merge Koalify makes is stored as a [Koalify Merge record](https://koalify.io/knowledge-base/how-to-view-and-filter-koalify-merges-in-hubspot-using-the-koalify-merge-object?hsLang=en) in HubSpot. To unmerge in bulk, you filter those Koalify Merge records down to the accidental merges and enroll them in a workflow with the **Koalify Unmerge** action.
### 1. Create an unmerge workflow
Note that in installs from November 2026 the workflow comes preinstalled.
- In your HubSpot account, go to **Automation \> Workflows** and create a new workflow based on **Koalify Merges**.
- Set the trigger to **Trigger manually only**. You usually only want to unmerge a specific set of accidental merges, not every merge that meets a set of criteria.
- Add an action and search for **Unmerge**.
- Select the **Koalify Unmerge** action and save it.
- Turn on the workflow.
You only need to create this workflow once. You can reuse it every time you need to unmerge records.
### 2. Filter the merges you want to unmerge
- Go to **CRM \> Koalify Merges**.
- Click **Advanced filters** and add filters that match only the accidental merges. For example:
- **Merge source** is **Workflow**
- **Workflow ID** is equal to any of the ID of the workflow that merged the records
- **Merge date** is **Today**
- **Duplicate rules** is equal to any of the duplicate rule that caused the wrong merges. Copy the value from one of the Koalify Merge records.
- Check the number of records in the view and open a few of them to confirm they were merged by mistake.
### 3. Turn off the workflow that caused the merges \[OPTIONAL\]
Before you unmerge, make sure the workflow that merged the records is turned off. Otherwise it may merge the same records again.
- Open one of the Koalify Merge records in your view.
- Navigate to the surviving record (the contact or company that remained after the merge).
- In the record's **Activities**, find the Koalify merge event and click through to the workflow that triggered the merge.
- Turn off that workflow, or fix the duplicate rule that caused the wrong merges.
### 4. Enroll the merges in the unmerge workflow
- Go back to your filtered view in **CRM \> Koalify Merges**.
- Select all records in the view.
- Click **More \> Enroll in workflow**.
- Choose your unmerge workflow and click **Enroll**.
The selected Koalify Merge records are now enrolled and Koalify starts unmerging them.
### 5. Track the progress of the unmerges
You can follow the unmerges in two places:
- **In the unmerge workflow:** check **Performance history** and **Enrollment history** to see each record move through the Koalify Unmerge action.
- **In CRM \> Koalify Merges:** add the **Status** column to your view. Each merge moves from **Merged** to **Unmerging** to **Unmerged**.
Once a merge is unmerged:
- **Unmerge date** shows when the unmerge happened.
- **Restored record ID** shows the ID of the record the unmerge recreated.
If the status is **Unmerge failed**, the **Unmerge error** property explains why.
### Good to know
- Use a manual trigger for your unmerge workflow, so you only unmerge the records you select.
- Always turn off or fix the workflow that caused the merges first, so the records aren't merged again.
